A 20-year-old Indian national is scheduled to be charged today in connection with an alleged case of outrage of modesty on a flight bound for Singapore.
The incident occurred on February 28, when a female cabin crew member reported being molested during the flight.
The police were alerted to the incident at approximately 12:05 pm after the crew member informed authorities that she was assaulted while escorting a female passenger to the lavatory.
According to police statements released on April 21, preliminary investigations indicated that the incident took place when the crew member noticed a piece of tissue paper on the aircraft floor.
As she bent down to pick it up, the 20-year-old man allegedly appeared behind her, grabbed her, and pushed her into the lavatory with him.
A passenger who witnessed the scene intervened, helping the crew member out of the lavatory immediately, the report said.
The matter was reported to the cabin supervisor, and the suspect was arrested after the aircraft landed at Changi Airport by officers from the Airport Police Division.
The police did not disclose the airline involved in the incident. The man is expected to be charged with using criminal force with intent to outrage modesty — an offence that can result in a jail term of up to three years, a fine, caning, or a combination of these penalties.
