A series of eight fire incidents at the North Gaia construction site in Yishun have been confirmed to be intentionally set, according to the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF).
North Gaia, developed by Sing Holdings, is a residential project expected to contain over 600 units.
The fires, which occurred between November 20 and November 27, prompted an investigation by both the SCDF and the police.
In one incident, two individuals were hospitalized due to smoke inhalation, although no additional injuries have been reported.
The blazes primarily involved construction materials and furniture scattered across various locations at the site. Firefighting teams from the SCDF quickly extinguished the flames, assisted by construction workers who were present.
“These fires, which mainly involved construction materials and furniture at various locations within the construction site, were either swiftly extinguished by SCDF or by the workers at the construction site,” said SCDF according to news reports.
“SCDF’s preliminary investigation findings indicate that the fires were intentionally started,” SCDF added.
Reports have been officially lodged, but further details regarding potential suspects or motives remain undisclosed.
