A 19-year-old Singapore woman who met a man on a dating app lied to police about being raped after a dispute over money.
Claris Ling Min Rui, now 20, pleaded guilty on Monday (Sep 1) to two charges: giving false information to a public servant and using threatening words to cause alarm under the Protection from Harassment Act.

According to Channel News Asia, Ling first connected with the 43-year-old victim on Sugarbook, a dating application. They later continued chatting on Telegram and arranged to meet on March 18, 2025.
According to court documents, the man agreed to pay Ling S$200 for her ‘time’.
The pair had dinner and drinks at a bar before heading to a hotel, where they engaged in consensual sex.
After the encounter, Ling demanded S$1,200 from the man. When he refused and offered only S$500, Ling became upset and began scolding him. The dispute continued past midnight into March 19.She then threatened to call the police, claiming she would accuse him of rape if he did not comply.
Soon after, Ling filed a false police report and sent the man a text message saying: “You’re f*ed.”
During the hearing, the judge ordered a probation suitability report and adjourned sentencing.
Under Singapore law: Providing false information to a public servant carries a penalty of up to two years’ jail, a fine, or both. Using threatening words to cause alarm carries up to six months’ jail, a fine of S$5,000, or both.
