A 33-year-old woman was apprehended by law enforcement authorities on Tuesday following suspicions of her involvement in the ill-treatment of a child or young person.

The arrest comes in response to a report received by the police regarding circulating videos that depicted a pre-school teacher allegedly mistreating young children. The incidents were reported to have occurred on Monday around 1pm, according to The Straits Times.

The videos, in which a teacher at Kinderland’s Woodlands Mart pre-school engaging in acts such as forcing children to drink water and striking a child on the buttocks with a book, swiftly gained traction on various social media and messaging platforms on Monday.

Subsequently, the Early Childhood Development Agency confirmed the teacher’s dismissal from the pre-school.

Jurong Police Division officers successfully identified the woman and arrested within a remarkably short span of six hours after the initial report was made.

The arrested woman now faces charges for the offense of ill-treatment of a child or young person.

In accordance with Singaporean law, those found guilty of this offense can be subjected to severe penalties. The convicted individuals may face imprisonment for a maximum term of eight years and a fine of up to $8,000, or both.
