NParks Investigating Allegations of Dog Abuse Linked to Social Media Account “mermaid.sg”

The National Parks Board (NParks) has confirmed it is investigating allegations of animal abuse involving a Singapore social media influencer who previously used the handle “mermaid.sg” on Instagram and TikTok.

The investigation follows the circulation of a video online that allegedly shows the influencer verbally and physically mistreating a dog in a private setting.

The footage, which was widely reshared on social media platforms and forums, prompted public outrage and multiple reports to animal welfare organisations.

According to NParks, the case is being handled by the Animal and Veterinary Service (AVS), which enforces animal welfare laws in Singapore.

NParks said it is aware of the allegations and is currently looking into the matter, without disclosing further details while investigations are ongoing .

The influencer, identified in media reports as Eunice Ng, has since deleted her social media accounts under the “mermaid.sg” name. The video is believed to have originated from her now-removed Instagram account before being reposted by third parties.

The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) has acknowledged receiving reports related to the incident and confirmed that it referred the case to AVS for further action, in line with standard procedures for suspected animal cruelty cases .

Under Singapore’s Animals and Birds Act, individuals found guilty of animal cruelty may face fines, imprisonment, or both, depending on the severity of the offence. Authorities have not indicated whether any enforcement action has been taken at this stage.

NParks stated that investigations are ongoing.
