Xavier Yap Jung Houn, 48, the father 11-year-old twin boys who were found dead in a canal in Upper Bukit Timah was handed second murder charge on Friday ( Feb 18).
Last month the police had confirmed that they have arrested arrested a 48-year-old man for his suspected involvement in the death of his two 11-year-old sons.
The father was later charged with the murder of Ethan Yap E Chern, one of the twin brothers as per the reports, while it was still unclear about why he was charged with only one death and left us confused on what might have happened with another kid.
But now in an recent update from media he was handed second murder charge, the father is now accused of killing second son Aston Yap Kai Shern.
Little background of what happened : On Jan 21 this year At around 6:25pm the police received the call for assistance by a man at a playground along Greenridge Crescent.
The man who called the police was the father of two kids who were found motionless near the canal when the police arrived.
After arrival both the kids pronounced dead at the scene by paramedic. The death was classified as unnatural death by police and the investigations are in process. Officers from the police’s Gurkha Contingent were seen combing through the area behind the playground and canal.
The twin boys are believed to have had special needs and attended a school in the Eng Kong estate area.
The police arrested the father in his suspected involvement in twin boys death on 22 January.
After the arrest the father was accompanied by a group of police officers when he was taken to the crime scene at around 3pm.
Update :
On Feb 18, a police prosecutor told the court that investigations have not completed, pending Mr Yap’s medical reports “concerning injuries he had sustained” and a health science authority report, Today Online reported. No details about the injuries.
As he was earlier remanded for Physchiatric observation, his mental health report has been uploaded and there is no estimated date of completion of investigation police prosecutor said in court.
Mr Yap’s lawyer said that he would be seeing him next week, during court session which happened via video link.
Under the penal code, the offence of murder carries the death penalty.
