Singapore has witnessed two deadly “weapon attacks” on the same day. One man attacked random people with Samurai sword, and the other attacked with Razor blade.
Recently a man attacked his ex girlfriend on her neck with a knife and now two more incidents of attack using deadly weapon have been reported.
According to the press release by Singapore Police Force both have been arrested and there is no indication that both incidents are related to each other.
Here are the two cases of voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means.
Samurai Sword Attack :
The incident happened at Buangkok Crescent.
The police said that On 14 March 2022 at about 1.56 pm, they received multiple calls of a man swinging a sword in the middle of Buangkok Crescent and stopping the oncoming traffic.
The video of man attacking cars & members of public went viral on social media platforms.
Police responded swiftly and arrested the man with the assistance of six members of the public.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the man had allegedly consumed some unknown pills prior to leaving his home with the sword, the police said.
The man had a brief altercation with members of the public at the lift lobby of the HDB block at which he resided. Subsequently, he jaywalked across the road, and allegedly used his weapon to hit five passing cars.
As you can see in the above video, at the traffic junction in front of Buangkok Square Mall, he allegedly swung his weapon against another man. At this point, other members of the public came forward and assisted to restrain him until the Police arrived and arrested him.
One male member of the public suffered two superficial slash wounds on his left arm and was conveyed to the hospital conscious. Another male member of the public suffered abrasions on his left knee. The Police raided the attacker’s residence and seized two packets of yellow pills.
Preliminary investigations do not suggest the incident to be an act of terror. The man is traced for multiple offences, including violence offences. He had previously been remanded in the Institute of Mental Health and diagnosed with substance use disorder.
RELEASED FROM PRISON :
According to the police statement, the man was last released from prison on 30 July 2020, after having served a sentence of nine months and two weeks for multiple offences, including violence offences and offences against public servants.
He will be charged in court on 16 March 2022 for the offence of voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means.
RAZOR BLADE ATTACK
On the same day of Samurai Sword attack, razor blade attacked happened at a different place. Here’s what the police said about the incident in their press release.
On 14 March 2022 at about 6.20pm, the Police received multiple calls of a man allegedly injuring others with a razor blade at Blk 59 Strathmore Avenue. Police responded swiftly to the case and arrested the man, the police said in a release.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the man was at the said location when he claimed to have heard voices in his head telling him to attack people.
The man then allegedly used a razor blade that he had with him to attack some passers-by, injuring two in the process. A 38-year-old man suffered lacerations and was conscious when conveyed to the hospital. A 49-year-old woman suffered minor injuries and refused conveyance to the hospital.
The man has past records with the Institute of Mental Health. He is also traced for consumption of controlled drugs, the police added.
The Police will be charging the 33-year-old man in court for an alleged offence of voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means.
The razor blade was seized as a case exhibit.
Investigations are ongoing. Thus far, there is no indication that this incident is related to the earlier incident at Buangkok Square Mall.
