An 85-year-old doctor, Kho Kwang Po, has been charged for posting offensive remarks against Muslims on Facebook. The charge was filed on Wednesday, stemming from a social media post made on April 21, 2021, which allegedly aimed to deliberately wound the religious feelings of Muslims.

According to CNA, Kho, a Singaporean, uploaded a post that included anti-Islam statements linking Muslims to violence and crime, while also questioning the integrity of religious leaders. The Singapore Police Force received multiple reports regarding Kho’s posts on June 29 and 30, 2021, which prompted an investigation into the matter.

Investigators revealed that Kho had reposted screenshots of his original Facebook comments from five years prior.

Notably, Kho left Singapore in January 2022 during the police investigation but returned to the country in October 2024.

In a court appearance, Kho represented himself without legal counsel. When the judge inquired about his intentions, he responded, “I think I will plead guilty.”

The judge offered him the opportunity to engage a lawyer for mitigation, but Kho declined. The case has been adjourned to April 9 for a plea-guilty mention.

Kho gained media attention in the past for co-authoring a letter advocating for the cessation of Singapore’s COVID-19 vaccination program. Under Singaporean law, individuals found guilty of intentionally wounding the religious or racial feelings of others may face penalties of up to three years in prison, fines, or both.
