An elderly man, aged 76, has been charged in connection with alleged sexual offences committed at a Housing Board (HDB) void deck in 2023.
According to Straits Times, the man is accused of molesting and performing a sex act on a 25-year-old man he reportedly knew to be a “vulnerable person.”
The incident reportedly occurred around 10am on August 9, 2023.
The man faces one charge each of molestation and performing a sex act without the victim’s consent.
The charges were filed on August 5, and he is scheduled to plead guilty on September 16. Due to a gag order, his identity remains undisclosed to protect the victim’s privacy.
Court documents indicate that both individuals were identified as “neighbourhood characters” at the time of the incident.
If convicted of performing a non-consensual sex act, the offender faces up to 20 years in prison and a fine or caning.
For molestation, the maximum penalty is three years’ imprisonment, a fine, caning, or a combination. Sentences can be doubled if the offences involve vulnerable persons; however, the elderly man cannot be caned as he is over 50.
