25-year-old former teacher aide charged over alleged sexual offences against 11-year-old pupil

A 25-year-old man who worked as a teacher aide has been charged over three alleged sexual offences involving a male pupil, with the alleged incidents taking place at a school between March 2025 and February 2026.

According to ST, the man was charged on Aug 27 with two counts of procuring an obscene or indecent act by a child under the Children and Young Persons Act (CYPA), as well as one count of molestation.

The boy was 11 years old when the alleged offences began.

Due to a gag order imposed to protect the victim’s identity, the man’s identity and the name of the school cannot be disclosed.

According to the charge sheets, the first alleged incident occurred on March 7, 2025.

The man was allegedly in an activity room at the school when he directed the boy to perform an indecent act on him.

He allegedly directed the boy to perform the same act again at about 3.30pm on Feb 13, 2026.

On the same day, the man is also accused of touching the boy’s genitals over his clothing, which forms the basis of the molestation charge.

The accused had worked as a teacher aide, a role that typically involves supporting teaching activities and preparing teaching materials and resources, the report added.

His case is scheduled to be mentioned again in court on Sept 24, 2026.

If convicted under the CYPA, a first-time offender can be jailed for up to seven years, fined up to S$10,000, or both for each charge.

A repeat offender can face up to 10 years’ imprisonment, a fine of up to S$20,000, or both.

For the molestation charge, an offender can be jailed for up to five years, fined, caned, or receive any combination of these punishments.

The charges are allegations and have not been proven in court.
