Singapore distance runner Ko Wen Qiang, Keane, 26, has been charged with allegedly stealing running equipment from a Decathlon outlet in Kallang in two separate incidents.
According to CNA, Ko allegedly took a pair of KD900X running shoes worth S$139.90 in July 2025. Two months later, in September, he is accused of stealing a set of training cones worth S$25 from the same outlet.
The total value of the items allegedly taken was S$164.90.
Ko was charged on July 1 and appeared at the State Courts on Sept 4 for a further mention. He is due to return to court on Oct 2.
Represented Singapore internationally
Ko is a competitive distance runner who has represented Singapore on the international stage.
Singapore Athletics said on its Facebook page that he competed for Singapore at the 2023 World Athletics Road Running Championships, completing the men’s half marathon in approximately 1 hour and 21 minutes.
He was also the runner-up in the men’s half marathon national championships at the 2024 Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon. Official Singapore Athletics results also show Ko competing for Club Zoom in domestic track events, including the 1,500m and 10,000m.
His running career has also taken him overseas. In a January 2026 report by The Straits Times, Ko said he had been based in Slovenia since late October 2025 while working remotely as a business developer for companies in Singapore and Slovenia.
He had previously joined a training camp in Celje, Slovenia, from May to July 2025 as he sought to qualify for the marathon at the 2025 SEA Games.
At the time, Ko said he was targeting Singapore national records in the 3,000m, 3,000m steeplechase and marathon.
A January 2026 feature by Brooks Running Singapore also profiled Ko’s training in Slovenia and his footwear routine. The company said he had been using different Brooks shoes for easy runs, tempo sessions, recovery and races.
Possible penalty
The charges against Ko fall under Section 380 of Singapore’s Penal Code, which covers theft in a building used as a human dwelling or for the custody of property.
If convicted, the offence carries a maximum punishment of seven years’ imprisonment and a fine.
