Doctor, 29, charged after allegedly placing stethoscope on woman’s breas*s at KTPH

Singapore doctor Yeo Teng Yao charged over alleged molestation incident at Khoo Teck Puat Hospital

A 29-year-old doctor has been charged with molestation over an alleged incident involving a 24-year-old woman at Khoo Teck Puat Hospital (KTPH) in Yishun in 2023.

Yeo Teng Yao was charged on Sept 3, according to The Straits Times.

The alleged offence took place at around 9pm on July 17, 2023, when Yeo was in a ward at KTPH.

According to court documents, he allegedly placed the diaphragm of a stethoscope onto the breasts of the woman.

The diaphragm is the flat side of a stethoscope’s chestpiece and is used to listen to sounds such as those from the heart.

The court documents did not disclose whether the woman was a patient at KTPH.

Yeo was previously employed by MOH Holdings (MOHH), the holding company of Singapore’s public healthcare institutions.

Responding to queries from The Straits Times on Sept 8, MOHH said Yeo had been let go.

An MOHH spokesman said: “We expect our medical officers to uphold high standards of professional conduct. The doctor was immediately suspended from all duties when the matter was brought to our attention and has since been dismissed.”

The Singapore Medical Council’s database shows that Yeo remains a registered doctor.

His pre-trial conference is scheduled to take place on Sept 29.

A person convicted of molestation can be jailed for up to three years, fined, caned, or receive any combination of these punishments.

The charge is an allegation, and the case remains before the courts.
