Woman Arrested Over Graffiti at Salvation Army Facility in Upper Bukit Timah

A 43-year-old woman was arrested on Thursday (Dec 25) for her suspected involvement in spray-painting “offensive words” at a Salvation Army facility in Upper Bukit Timah, police said.

In response to queries from Channel NewsAsia (CNA), the Singapore Police Force said they received a call for assistance at about 9.15am regarding a case of graffiti at Praisehaven – The Salvation Army, located along Upper Bukit Timah Road.

Upon arrival, officers found offensive words written with red spray paint on multiple areas of the premises. These included the building’s walls and three vehicles belonging to Praisehaven – The Salvation Army.

Officers who responded to the scene found offensive words spray-painted in red on several parts of the premises. These included the building’s exterior walls as well as three vans belonging to the organisation. A red spray canister believed to have been used in the act was also found at the scene.

Police confirmed that the graffiti was allegedly done using a red spray canister, which was found at the scene.

At around 2pm the same day, Instagram account Sgfollowsall shared a post citing a follower who reported that “several parts of the walls and vehicles were spray-painted with a red canister with ill-intended words.”

The post also claimed that police had “the place surrounded” during their investigations.

A representative from The Salvation Army said the exact words would not be disclosed, as they were sensitive in nature and related to religion, according to media reports.

In a statement, police stressed that they “take a very serious view of acts that threaten Singapore’s racial and religious harmony.”

“Such behaviour will not be condoned, and offenders will be dealt with firmly in accordance with the law,” police added.

The woman was arrested later on Thursday for her suspected involvement in the case. Investigations are ongoing, and police have not disclosed further details, including the motive behind the act or whether charges have been filed.
