Singapore’s 2025 General Election has concluded, marked by a significant display of civic engagement.
An impressive 92.47% of the 2,627,026 registered electors exercised their right to vote, with the Elections Department reporting a total of 2,429,281 ballots cast. This figure includes 42,829 votes that were rejected.
The election, the first under the leadership of Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, saw the People’s Action Party (PAP) secure a commanding majority, winning 87 of the 97 parliamentary seats.
This outcome reaffirms the PAP’s long-standing influence in Singaporean politics.
The Workers’ Party (WP) continued to serve as the primary opposition, successfully retaining the 10 seats they held in the 2020 General Election.
This consistent presence in Parliament ensures a platform for alternative viewpoints and robust debate on national issues.
While the Progress Singapore Party (PSP) did not win any directly contested seats, they secured 2 Non-Constituency Member of Parliament (NCMP) positions.
The NCMP scheme is designed to increase opposition representation in Parliament, allowing for a broader spectrum of voices to be heard.
The 2025 General Election involved contests across 33 constituencies, comprising both single-member wards and Group Representation Constituencies (GRCs).
Decisive PAP Victory
The People’s Action Party (PAP) secured a commanding majority, winning 87 out of 97 parliamentary seats, reaffirming their long-standing political dominance in Singapore.
The PAP demonstrated continued electoral strength by winning key Group Representation Constituencies (GRCs) such as Marsiling-Yew Tee and Tampines GRC.
The PAP also secured victories in several Single Member Constituencies (SMCs), including Yio Chu Kang SMC and Pioneer SMC, further contributing to their overall majority.
WP Retains Strongholds
The Workers’ Party (WP) maintained its established support by successfully retaining Aljunied GRC, Sengkang GRC, and Hougang SMC, solidifying its role as the primary opposition force.
