A 30-year-old man has been arrested for his alleged involvement in an incident that resulted in injuries to a security officer at the Lorong Chuan MRT station.
The arrest follows an altercation that occurred on the morning of August 17, when the police were called to respond to a disturbance during routine security checks.
At approximately 8:08 AM, a female security officer from SMRT, aged 65, was performing her duties at the concourse of the station when she requested to check the suspect’s backpack.
According to Police press release, the man became uncooperative, raising his voice at the officer. The confrontation escalated when he allegedly grabbed her arms and pushed her, causing her to fall backward.
“The security officer suffered head injuries and was conveyed conscious to the hospital where she was subsequently discharged with five days of medical leave.” the police added.
Following the incident, police conducted extensive ground inquiries and reviewed CCTV footage from the MRT station. This investigation led to the identification of the suspect, who was arrested on August 18.
The man is set to face charges in court on August 19, 2024, under Section 337(a) of the Penal Code 1871, which addresses “rash act causing hurt.” This offense can result in a prison sentence of up to one year, a fine, or both.
