A 25-year-old male who is allegedly linked to an aggravated outrage of modesty has been detained by the police.
FIRST CASE
According to the police press release, on 1 January 2023 at about 3.20am the Police received information that a woman was molested along Siloso Beach Walk.
Through follow-up investigations, officers from Clementi Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him within two hours from the report, the police added.
According to CNA, the 25-year-old Subramanian Muralimanogarjoshi, was charged on Monday (Jan 2) with one count each of criminal trespass and outrage of modesty with wrongful restraint.
“Subramanian trespassed into the toilet at Siloso Beach at about 2.55am on Jan 1 intending to commit an offence. He allegedly pushed a woman into a cubicle, locked the door and groped her breasts”, CNA reported.
About 30 minutes later, the police were informed of the incident. Within two hours, the accused, who was of Indian descent, was located and taken into custody.
Subramanian was remanded on Monday and his case was adjourned to Jan 30.
The offence of aggravated outrage of modesty, punishable under Section 354A(1) of the Penal Code 1871, carries an imprisonment for a term of not less than two years and not more than 10 years, and caning.
SECOND CASE
For his alleged involvement in a case of outrage of modesty, the police have detained a 58-year-old male.
A woman was allegedly molested on a bus along Commonwealth Drive at around 7 a.m. on January 1, 2023.
According to the police press release, the woman immediately alerted the bus driver, who then stopped the man from leaving and called the Police. The man was subsequently arrested at scene by responding police officers.
The man was charged in court on 2 January 2023.
The offence of outrage of modesty, punishable under Section 354(1) of the Penal Code 1871, carries an imprisonment term which may extend to three years, a fine, caning, or any combination of such punishments.
The Police have zero tolerance towards sexual offenders who threaten the personal safety of the community. Offenders will be dealt with sternly in accordance with the law.
