A 12-year-old boy is currently assisting police with investigations following a disturbing incident at Admiralty Secondary School, where he was allegedly assaulted by a classmate during school hours.
The attack, which occurred on January 7 at approximately 2 PM, involved the classmate striking the victim on the head with a metal water bottle, resulting in a significant injury.
According to a police statement, the school contacted authorities after the incident, and the victim was assessed for injuries by the Singapore Civil Defence Force.
The school confirmed that the assault caused a cut on the back of the boy’s head, and an ambulance was called to transport him to the hospital.
According to ST report, the school later stated, “He is in stable condition. We are in touch with his parents and are closely monitoring his well-being”.
Mr Jeremy Goh, the victim’s uncle took Facebook to share about the incident stating ‘I am deeply disturbed and heartbroken by the incident’ and urged netizens to share his post so that he gets justice. In his post he also stated that his nephew was a new student at Admiralty Secondary School and within just four days of attending the school, he was brutally assaulted by a classmate in the classroom.
Mr. Jeremy Goh, expressed outrage over the school’s handling of the situation, revealing that the injury was far more severe than initially reported.
Upon arriving at the hospital, Mr. Goh discovered that his nephew sustained a deep cut measuring 4-5 cm in length and 7-8 mm in depth, which required specialist stitches.
He also noted that further assessments, including CT scans, could not be performed immediately due to the risks of high radiation for children, necessitating a wait of 72 hours for a complete evaluation of the boy’s condition.
Mr. Goh criticized the school’s lack of supervision and expressed his anger over the administration’s response during the crisis. He alleged that while his nephew was being rushed to the hospital, staff members, including the principal and vice-principal, were seen laughing and joking, with only the discipline master, Mr. Kenny Wang, displaying any empathy.
“The school downplayed the injury, describing it as a ‘minor cut,’ which is far from the truth,” Mr. Goh stated.
“This isn’t just about one child—it’s about ensuring the safety and accountability of a school that is supposed to protect and nurture its students”.
”The situation took a further troubling turn when Mr. Goh revealed that his nephew’s form teacher reportedly laughed and remarked, “This is what happens when you retaliate,” while the boy was in the sickbay.
The comment has been described as both insensitive and cruel, raising questions about the message being conveyed to students in moments of crisis.
Following the incident, the school has stated that they take the safety and well-being of their students seriously and do not condone acts of violence. They have indicated that necessary disciplinary action will be taken against the student involved and have pledged to assist the police with their investigation.
As of now, the victim has been discharged from the hospital but has been placed on hospitalization leave until January 14 for further medical review.
In light of the incident, Mr. Goh said he has filed a police report and is calling on the Ministry of Education, the Singapore Police Force, and media outlets to conduct a thorough investigation.
“No parent should have to see their child suffer such trauma, especially in a place meant to be safe,” he emphasized in his Facebook post.
