Muhammad Syafie Ismail, 44, is scheduled to plead guilty on 23 October this year to charges related to a six-vehicle collision that resulted in two fatalities, including a Temasek Junior College student.
According to Straits Times report, the date was confirmed after a pre-trial conference on July 31.
This marks the first time Syafie has a plea date since charges were initially filed over a year ago in April 2024.
Syafie first appeared in court on April 25, 2024, when he faced multiple charges: dangerous driving causing death, dangerous driving causing hurt, dangerous driving, and failing to stop after an accident.
In June 2025, he was additionally charged with another count of dangerous driving.
The tragic accident occurred on April 22, 2024, in Tampines.
According to reports, the first car Syafie crashed into spun before overturning, leading to a collision with a van.
The van then collided with a minibus, causing the deaths of Madam Norzihan Juwahib, 57, and Afifah Munirah Muhammad Azril, 17. Six other individuals, including two 11-year-old boys, were injured.
Legal consequences for dangerous driving causing death include a jail term of two to eight years and disqualification from driving.
Dangerous driving causing hurt carries potential penalties of up to two years’ imprisonment, a fine of up to $10,000, or both.
