A man named Vong Sarain, aged 35, has been handed a three-week jail sentence on Friday (July 14) after pleading guilty to a charge of housebreaking.
The incident occurred when Vong, having just completed a plumbing job at an 11th floor condominium unit on July 22, 2022, became curious upon hearing what he believed to be “porn sounds” emanating from a nearby flat.
According to Deputy Public Prosecutor Sarah Thaker, Vong, waiting for his wife to pick him up, felt bored and decided to take a stroll. As he ascended the stairs to the 12th floor, he noticed the provocative sounds coming from one of the units. Intrigued, he peered through the window and spotted a woman inside, leading to his curiosity about her activities.
As per the reports, Court documents revealed that Vong, eager to confirm his suspicions about the woman “pleasuring herself,” rang the doorbell but received no response.
According to the court documents, after ringing the doorbell without receiving a response, the plumber proceeded to climb through the open kitchen window of the unit. His motive, as stated in the documents, was to satisfy his curiosity about whether the woman inside was engaging in intimate activities.
He remained in the kitchen for a brief period before his presence was discovered by the female resident. Upon being confronted, the woman shouted at him, prompting the plumber to swiftly retreat by climbing back out of the window and making a hasty escape.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Thaker, in seeking a sentence of one to two weeks’ imprisonment, argued that the man’s intention to enter the woman’s unit was of a “sinister” nature.
Moreover, Vong’s actions constituted trespassing into a private residence, violating the sense of safety and sanctity that individuals typically associate with their homes.
Housebreaking is a criminal offense punishable by imprisonment of up to three years, a fine, or both, for those found guilty.
