A primary school teacher, identified as Kenneth Seah Wei Yuan, 34, appeared in court on Wednesday (July 12) to face charges related to sexual offences against teenage girls.

According to Channel News Asia, Seah, who has been suspended by the Ministry of Education (MOE), is accused of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl at a Housing Board (HDB) block staircase on February 2. It is alleged that he committed the same act with another 15-year-old girl the following month.

Seah faces five charges, including the sexual grooming of a 13-year-old girl in May. On June 26, he is accused of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl at a staircase landing of another HDB block.

Additionally, Seah is charged with producing child abuse material by recording the sex acts, highlighting the seriousness of the allegations brought against him.

While a gag order has been imposed to protect the identities of the victims, there is no such order in place regarding Seah’s identity.

SUSPENDED

In response to queries from Channel News Asia, a MOE spokesperson confirmed on Thursday that Seah has been suspended from duty since July this year and is no longer teaching in any school.

The spokesperson emphasized that the Ministry takes a grave view of staff misconduct and will not hesitate to take disciplinary action, including dismissal from service, against those who fail to uphold the standards of conduct and discipline.

“MOE takes a serious view of staff misconduct and will not hesitate to take disciplinary action against those who fail to adhere to our standards of conduct and discipline, including dismissal from service,” the spokesperson added according to CNA.

Seah is set to return to court in August to face these charges. If convicted of sexual assault of a minor, he could face a maximum sentence of up to 10 years’ imprisonment, a fine, or both.

The offence of sexual grooming of a minor carries a maximum jail term of four years, a fine, or both. Producing child abuse material is also a serious offense, punishable by up to 10 years’ imprisonment, a fine, or caning..
