Ken Lim Chih Chiang, a former judge of the popular reality TV singing competition Singapore Idol, has been hit with new charges on Wednesday, adding to the accusation of molesting a woman earlier.

The fresh charges accuse him of insulting the modesty of three women, bringing the total number of charges against him to six. The alleged incidents took place between 1998 and 2013, either at his Hype Records office or his residence.

According to Channel News Asia, Ken Lim, 59, is the owner of Hype Records, a concert promoter, record label, and artiste management agency. During the period from 1998 to 1999, he is accused of making inappropriate comments to a female artiste, suggesting her lack of sexual experience and offering assistance in this regard. Additionally, he allegedly showed her a pornographic video depicting sexual activity.

Sexual Fantasies As Homework

Between 1999 and 2002, Lim purportedly asked another female artiste about her virginity and questioned her ability to write meaningful songs due to her supposed lack of sexual experience. He allegedly propositioned her to be her first sexual partner, requested her to write out her “sexual fantasies as homework,” and offered himself as a means to fulfill her fantasies.

  • One charge of using criminal force to touch the breast of a 25-year-old woman at his Hype Records office in November 2021.
  • Five charges of insulting the modesty of three women between 1998 and 2013.
    • Allegedly making inappropriate comments to a female artiste about her sexual inexperience and offering assistance in 1998-1999.
    • Allegedly showing a pornographic video to the same female artiste in 1998-1999.
    • Allegedly asking another female artiste about her virginity, questioning her ability to write deeper songs due to her lack of sexual experience, and making sexual propositions in 1999-2002.
    • Allegedly asking the same female artiste to write out her sexual fantasies as homework and offering himself as a sexual partner to fulfill her fantasies in 1999-2002.
    • Allegedly making inappropriate remarks and gestures, including unbuckling his belt and removing his belt strap in front of a woman at Hype Records in 2013.

In 2013, at the Hype Records office, it is alleged that Lim made a remark to a third woman, questioning why she wouldn’t engage in sex if she could do it for something in return. According to the charge sheets, he then proceeded to unbuckle his belt and remove his belt strap in front of her.

Ken Lim’s involvement as a judge extended beyond Singapore Idol, as he also appeared on another reality TV singing competition called The Final 1 in 2013. He was initially charged in March for the criminal force used to touch the breast of a 25-year-old woman at his Hype Records office in November 2021. Previously represented by Dentons Rodyk partner Navin Naidu, he has since switched legal representation to WongPartnership, including Senior Counsel Tan Chee Meng.

Lim is scheduled to return to court in July for a pre-trial conference. Despite the charges against him, he maintains his innocence and has no intention of pleading guilty, as stated by his previous lawyer during court proceedings.

If convicted of insulting a woman’s modesty, each charge carries a maximum penalty of up to one year’s imprisonment, a fine, or both. On the other hand, if found guilty of molestation, Lim could face a jail term of up to two years, a fine, or both. It is important to note that caning is also a possible punishment, although offenders above the age of 50 are exempt from caning in Singapore’s legal system.
