DETAILS OF THE CASE

According to CNA report, Koh was cycling along Grace Walk when a 64-year-old driver dangerously drove his vehicle onto the same street from a merging lane.

To avoid a collision, Koh had to take evasive action, which reportedly fueled his anger toward the driver’s reckless behavior.

The driver subsequently entered Verdana Villas, a cluster housing development, with Koh closely following behind. At around 8:15 pm, Koh approached a security guard at the entrance of the premises, pretending to be on a food delivery assignment.

Upon gaining entry, he made his way to the covered car park where he found the driver’s parked vehicle.

In a fit of rage, Koh yanked, kicked, and punched the left side mirror of the car multiple times. The entire incident was captured on closed-circuit television, the report added.

The driver filed a police report the following day, leading to Koh’s arrest.

The damaged mirror incurred repair costs amounting to S$1,170, which Koh has since paid in full.

During mitigation, Koh expressed that his actions were driven by “built-up” frustration from repeated encounters with “inconsiderate and reckless drivers.”

He stated, “A collision would likely have resulted in me lying in bed suffering. Even worse, I could have lost my life that night if I did not take any evasive action.”

Koh acknowledged that while his feelings of anger were understandable, they did not justify his actions.

“I know it’s not an excuse for whatever I had done. One thing I can assure you is I regret my actions and this is my first and last time smashing someone’s mirror, and I hope that you can give me a chance,” he told the judge.

For the charge of mischief, Koh faced a potential jail sentence of up to two years, a fine, or both.

The trespass charge carried a possible penalty of up to three months in jail, a fine of up to S$1,500, or both.
