The Singapore Sports School is grappling with a shocking incident involving the creation and distribution of deepfake nude images of female students by their male peers. The twisted saga has prompted a police investigation following reports from affected families.

According to news report, Principal Ong Kim Soon confirmed the school’s knowledge of the situation, “involving the creation and sharing of deepfake photos by our student-athletes”.

Principal stated, “The school has launched an investigation and lodged a police report. As police investigations are ongoing, we are unable to share more information.”

He added : “The school does not condone such harmful behaviour”.

The police have also acknowledged the report and indicated that inquiries into the creation and dissemination of these deepfake images are underway. While specific details about the photographs have not been disclosed, the implications are serious, sparking concerns among students and parents alike.

In a WhatsApp message sent to parents, the school disclosed that it has provided police with links related to the case and is working to have the offending images removed from websites. Additionally, it was revealed that all students involved in the incident are being interviewed by law enforcement, and their mobile devices have been seized for forensic analysis, the report added.

In response to the alleged misconduct, the school has begun implementing disciplinary actions against those involved, which could include caning, suspension, and bans from sports trips or training sessions.

“It’s a huge group of boys” and “not just one or two”

A father of one of the victims recounted that he was informed of the incident on Monday during a conversation with his daughter’s mentor. He expressed his concerns, explaining that the issue has persisted since June, when a group of boys reportedly started generating and sharing deepfake images of their female classmates using WhatsApp in separate groups for creation and distribution.

The father described the group of offenders as “huge,” suggesting widespread involvement rather than just a few individuals. He noted that several affected parents have already filed police reports.

According to CNA, he said he was “unsure how many students are involved”, but added that “it’s a huge group of boys” and “not just one or two”.

While some disciplinary measures, including private caning, were reportedly handed down to the boys involved, the father feels that these actions do not sufficiently address the severity of the situation. He urged the school to consider expelling the students responsible, asserting that “the girls will not feel safe with them lurking in school.”
