A maid hired to care for a 92-year-old man with a brain condition was sentenced to six months in jail on Monday (Sep 15) after she exposed the vulnerable man’s private parts to her boyfriend during a video call.

According to Channel News Asia, the 44-year-old Indonesian woman, whose name was withheld from court documents due to a gag order protecting the victim, pleaded guilty to a charge of voyeurism for enabling her boyfriend to observe the elderly man when his genital region was exposed.
The court heard that the offender was one of two maids employed to look after the victim at his flat. He lived there with his wife, who suffers from dementia. At the time of the incident in July 2024, the victim suffered from a brain condition that impaired his mobility, required assistance with daily living, and likely had cognitive impairment.
On the morning of Jul 27, the maid was on a WhatsApp video call with her boyfriend. She picked up the call and placed her phone on a cupboard before removing the soiled diaper of the victim, who lay naked from the waist down on his bed.
During the five-minute call, she pointed her boyfriend towards the victim’s exposed buttocks while smiling. She then gestured to the victim to turn to his side and cleaned his private parts.She later admitted that the victim would have been upset if he had known that he was being observed.
That same day, a family member reviewing CCTV footage saw what had occurred. On Jul 29, the victim’s granddaughter and her mother took the maid to her employment agency and reported the matter to the police.
The family chose not to confront her directly, as she “spoke in an abrasive manner and they did not wish to antagonise her,” the prosecutor told the court.The maid was subsequently arrested and remanded.
Prosecutors sought a jail term of between six and eight months, highlighting the “very high” degree of callousness and insensitivity shown.
Appearing via video link from remand, the offender displayed a reddened nose and closed her eyes as court documents were read. In mitigation, she pleaded for leniency, saying she was a single parent with two sons and also cared for her mother.
For voyeurism, she could have faced up to two years’ jail, a fine, or both. As the victim was a vulnerable person, she faced enhanced penalties of up to double the usual maximum punishment.
However, she was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment.
