A 38-year-old man was sentenced to 11 weeks in jail for assaulting a 68-year-old woman after she rejected his sexual advances.
According to zaobao, the 38-year-old man pleaded guilty on Friday (December 6).
Chng Yong Huat met the victim on January 3, 2024, for drinks and music at a rooftop garden. After initially engaging in consensual kissing, the victim expressed discomfort and wished to stop.
The report did not disclose the nature of the relationship between the two.
The duo then moved to a void deck in Hougang, where Chng persisted with his advances.
When the woman refused again they started arguing, he became enraged and physically assaulted her, pushing her to the ground.
The man pushed the victim at the elevator entrance of Block 521, Hougang Avenue 6, at 4:01 AM on the same day.
As a result of the attack, the victim sustained injuries including external bruising on her head and cheek, as well as a fractured rib.
She was hospitalized for 16 days, the report added.
The prosecution argued that Chng had knowingly targeted a vulnerable individual, exploiting her age and physical frailty. Despite this, he chose to resort to violence, demonstrating a disregard for her well-being.
However, considering Chng’s lack of prior criminal history and his early guilty plea, the prosecution sought a sentence of 11 weeks’ imprisonment.
