A 38-year-old private-hire driver, Muhammad Sathiq Mohamed Sadakatulla, has been sentenced to 20 weeks in prison after pleading guilty to multiple charges, including entering a protected military facility without permission and assaulting police officers.

According to report, the incident unfolded on December 20, 2023, when Sathiq, after consuming 10 cans of beer, drove his car into Bedok Camp located along Upper East Coast Road.

Despite the camp’s security personnel denying him entry by not raising the barrier, Sathiq proceeded to crash through it and drove approximately 50 meters into the facility. He then made a U-turn and sped out, crashing through another barrier.

Authorities later apprehended Sathiq at his home, where a breathalyzer test revealed he had 36 micrograms of alcohol per 100 milliliters of breath—slightly over the legal limit of 35 micrograms.

Despite his intoxication, Sathiq made a conscious decision to drive to Bedok Camp, where he created a disturbance.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Darren Sim stated, “He proceeded to drive through the barrier, and drove about 50m into Bedok Camp, before making a U-turn and driving out of the camp at a high speed, crashing through an exit barrier that had not been raised for his exit.”

Following his arrest, Sathiq was released on bail but found himself in further trouble in September 2024.

On September 8, 2024, after consuming multiple cans of beer near Havelock Road, he called the police claiming he wanted to be arrested, stating, “I want to go inside lock up… I called police and no one came… You find my location. I need to whack (a) policeman, then you will arrest me. I want to go in and clear my name.”

Upon police arrival, Sathiq became aggressive, headbutting one officer and punching another multiple times. The officers responded by drawing their batons and ordering him to lie down, which he complied with, leading to his re-arrest.

Both officers received two days of medical leave due to their injuries.

During the court proceedings, Deputy Public Prosecutor Darren Sim highlighted Sathiq’s reckless behavior, stating that he knowingly drove while intoxicated and caused a disturbance at the military facility.

Sathiq was represented by two defence lawyers.

During the sentencing hearing, both the prosecution and the defence recommended a five-month jail term.

The defence highlighted Sathiq’s strained family relationships and the impact of his divorce on his well-being, noting that he began consuming large amounts of alcohol as a coping mechanism. They highlighted that he understands his behavior is inexcusable and expressed his remorse, as he pleaded guilty at the earliest opportunity.

Defence : “(Sathiq) has had a strained relationship with his family and his divorce had significantly impacted his well-being.

“As a way to cope with these stressors, he began consuming copious amounts of alcohol. He understands that this is no excuse for his behaviour.”

On December 18, both the prosecution and defense recommended a five-month jail sentence, but the court ultimately sentenced Sathiq to 20 weeks behind bars.
