Singaporean police have opened investigations into a 20-year-old woman who was seen placing pro-Palestine placards at the entrance of the Israeli embassy in Singapore.
The incident took place on Monday (Dec 11) evening and was reported to the police by embassy officials.
“A woman was spotted allegedly placing placards at the entrance of the embassy and taking pictures before subsequently leaving,” said the police as per the report.
“The 20-year-old woman was identified by the police and is assisting with investigations under Section 16(2) of the Public Order Act 2009.”
According to the police, the woman was captured on surveillance cameras allegedly placing the placards and taking photographs before leaving the scene. She has since been identified by the authorities and is currently assisting with the ongoing investigations under Section 16(2) of the Public Order Act 2009.
The photographs of the incident were initially posted on Instagram by the woman and were later shared on X (formerly Twitter) & reddit as well.
The placards displayed messages related to the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas, with slogans such as “Free Palestine” and “Ceasefire – Cease all trade with Israel now!”.
In response to the incident, the police affirmed that any public assemblies or events related to the Israel-Hamas conflict are not permitted due to concerns over public safety and security.
Organizing or participating in such assemblies without a police permit is considered an offense under the Public Order Act 2009.
The Singapore Police Force (SPF) further emphasized its policy of not granting permits for assemblies advocating political causes of other countries or foreign entities that may potentially incite public disorder.
Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
