One Man To Be Charged For Samurai Sword Attack & Another For Razor Blade Attack
WHAT HAPPENED :
The court was informed that on March 14, 2022, around midday, Fadhil left his home carrying a samurai sword, or katana, that was about 63 cm long.
He got to Buangkok Crescent around 2.15 p.m., walked in the middle of the road while holding the sword in his right hand.
Then Fadhil swung his sword at four passing cars, causing damage that might cost up to S$1,000 to repair.
A short while later, a man returning home with goods from the store approached a traffic light intersection and waited for the light to change to green. He saw Fadhil standing in the middle of the road and slashing cars with his sword while holding his groceries in one hand and his phone in the other.
The pedestrian recorded Fadhil’s behaviour as he approached him using his phone. The victim was slashed three times on his arm and shoulder with the sword by Fadhil, and they both collapsed to the ground. Then other onlookers rushed over and tackled Fadhil, pinning him to the floor.
With wounds and abrasions, the victim was sent to the hospital and given a three-day medical leave, costing S$110.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Daniel Ling asked for 18 to 24 months’ jail for Fadhil, with six strokes of the cane, according to CNA.
DPP said “Fadhil has previous convictions for offences like criminal intimidation and voluntarily causing hurt to deter a public servant from his duty”.
“A charge of carrying an offensive weapon was among the charges taken into consideration”.
UNABLE TO PAY FINE & APOLOGIES TO EVERYONE
Anand Nalachandran, the lawyer who took on the case through the Criminal Legal Aid Scheme, requested a shorter jail term.
He said that a total of roughly S$2,500 in losses occurred, but Fadhil is unable to make amends at this time. Mr. Nalachandran stated that despite this, he intends to do so after his release and accepts responsibility for his actions.
He added that Fadhil “extends his apologies to everyone”.
