Three Men Fined for Taunting Policeman at Murder Scene in Sam Leong Road

Three men who taunted and mocked a policeman stationed at a murder scene have each been fined for their conduct.

On October 28, Alex Kumar Gnanasekaran, 38, was fined $4,000, while Md Dino Marciano Abdul Wahab, 45, and Mohamed Eusof Mohamed Yahiya, 33, each received $5,000 fines, according to ST report.

All three pleaded guilty to using insulting language toward a police officer performing his duty as a public servant.

The court also heard that both Dino and Eusof had prior offences involving public servants.

Dino had been charged earlier under the Protection from Harassment Act for uttering vulgarities at a police officer in January 2025, while Eusof was previously convicted in 2022 for causing hurt to a public servant.

A fourth man, Mohanan V. Balakrishnan, 39, who filmed the trio’s taunting behaviour, had already been convicted in September and fined $3,500.

The incident occurred on September 22 at around 5 a.m., after a night of drinking and clubbing. The group of four men was walking along the back lane of Sam Leong Road, near Kitchener Road, where police had cordoned off an area to preserve a murder crime scene.

Despite clear instructions from an officer to stay away, the men refused to comply and demanded to pass through the cordon.

When another officer denied their request, Alex became aggressive, shouting vulgarities at the officer and declaring, “We are paying tax” and “I can show you 100 per cent gangster.”

Dino repeatedly mocked the policeman, remarking, “You talked like gangster you know, we all scared you know,” while Eusof pointed at the officer, saying, “He is going to cry already.”

The incident, which lasted about three minutes, ended only when another officer intervened and ordered them to leave, the report added.

A member of the public later reported the video after it circulated online.

During the court session, all three men remained expressionless as the video showing them laughing and jeering at the officer was played in court.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Tan Jun Ya sought a fine of $5,000 each, stating that the men had obstructed police officers in maintaining security and had shown blatant disregard for law enforcement duties.

In mitigation, defence lawyer S.S. Dhillon pleaded for a $3,500 fine each, noting that his clients were remorseful and had pledged never to repeat their mistake.

District Judge Lim Tse Haw took into account the previous offences of Dino and Eusof and noted that Alex’s record was less severe, being limited to traffic-related matters.

The judge also acknowledged that Alex had taken the initiative to undergo counselling, reflecting a sincere effort to improve his behaviour.

Under Singapore law, anyone found guilty of using abusive or insulting language against a public servant may face up to one year in jail, a fine of up to $5,000, or both.
