Woman Caught With Etomidate Vape Pods at Same Club Twice, Sent for Reformative Training

A 21-year-old woman who was twice caught with etomidate-laced vaporisers, commonly known as Kpods, at the same Singapore nightclub has been sentenced to reformative training for at least a year.

According to ST, Tan Xin Yi was ordered by the court on May 15 to undergo the strict rehabilitation-focused regime, which includes detention in a reformative training centre where offenders may undergo counselling, foot drills and other correctional programmes.

She had pleaded guilty in January to possessing Kpods on two separate occasions — Aug 16 and Sept 28, 2025 — after enforcement officers from the Health Sciences Authority (HSA) found her with the illegal vape pods during raids at a nightclub in Excelsior Shopping Centre along Coleman Street.

Court documents earlier identified the venue as Club Poseidon.

The court set Tan’s bail at $10,000, and she is expected to begin serving her sentence on June 3.

Kpods contain etomidate, an anaesthetic drug that authorities say can cause severe health effects when inhaled through vaping devices. Authorities warned that the substance may trigger muscle spasms, breathing difficulties, seizures and even psychosis.

Singapore stepped up its anti-vaping crackdown in 2025 amid a rise in etomidate-related incidents. Etomidate was temporarily classified as a Class C controlled drug from Sept 1, 2025, while harsher penalties were introduced for Kpod users and traffickers.

Under the enhanced laws, first-time adult offenders caught abusing etomidate face fines of up to $700, while offenders below 18 can be fined up to $500. Both groups may also be ordered to attend mandatory rehabilitation for up to six months.

In November 2025, a 16-year-old boy became the first Kpod abuser sent to a Singapore Prison Service drug rehabilitation centre after he was caught committing etomidate-related offences on three occasions.

Members of the public who wish to report vaping-related offences or the sale of illegal vaping products can contact HSA’s Tobacco Regulation Branch at 6684-2036 or 6684-2037 between 9am and 9pm daily.
