A 23-year-old man, Leow Jin Hwa Ronald, has been sentenced to 15 months’ jail after having sex with a 14-year-old girl in a nursing room at VivoCity, Singapore, resulting in pregnancy and abortion.

According to Mothership, the pair first met in October 2024 through a Telegram gaming group chat, where they bonded over shared interests in video games. Court documents stated that Leow was informed of the victim’s age at the time.

Their contact later stopped, before Leow reconnected with the girl in May 2025 by messaging her. The two resumed communication, went on several dates, and eventually entered a romantic relationship on Jun. 10, 2025.

On Jun. 12, 2025, the couple met at VivoCity around 7pm and later went to a public nursing room in the mall at about 8:30pm. Inside the locked room, they engaged in penetrative sex without using a condom.

The incident later came to light after the victim confided in friends.

On Aug. 18, 2025, her teachers became aware of the matter and informed her mother, who took her to KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital for medical checks.

A police report was also filed.

Medical examinations showed that the girl was about 10 weeks pregnant, and she later underwent an abortion on Sep. 2, 2025, the report added.

A paternity test conducted using samples from the foetus and Leow confirmed he was the biological father.

The prosecution argued that the lack of protection exposed the minor to risks of pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases, which was an aggravating factor.

The judge agreed, stating the harm caused was severe, noting the girl had to undergo an “invasive and traumatic abortion procedure” at the age of 14.

Leow was sentenced to 15 months in prison. He initially appealed the sentence but later discontinued the appeal.
