Singaporean authorities have taken action against two individuals involved in a violent altercation that took place at Woodlands Checkpoint on April 28, 2023. The incident, which was captured on video and shared on social media platforms, showed two men engaging in a physical fight using motorcycle helmets as weapons.
After receiving a report about the incident on May 3, 2023, the police swiftly launched an investigation in collaboration with the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA). With the assistance of ICA, the identities of the two men, aged 32 and 47, were established.
Subsequently, both individuals were detained upon their entry into Singapore, according to a press release by SPF.
The video was shared by user Hiduo Sementara in the Malaysia-Singapore Border Crossers(MSBC) 马新过境者 Facebook group & it went viral on various social media platforms.
In the intense scuffle, the person in the dark blue jacket throws a red helmet at their opponent in the light blue shirt. They swiftly strike the back of the other person’s head and grab their helmet before rushing towards their motorcycle. In retaliation, the person in the light blue shirt strikes back with a gray motorbike helmet.
Both continue to exchange blows until, in the midst of the fight, the person in the light blue shirt tries to grab the other person’s jacket over their head but accidentally drops their own helmet.
Preliminary investigations conducted by the authorities have shed light on the events leading up to the altercation. It is believed that the fight originated from a dispute over “queue-cutting” along the viaduct that leads to the departure motorcycle zone at Woodlands Checkpoint.
Allegedly, the two men resorted to pushing their motorcycles against each other before eventually dismounting and engaging in a physical confrontation, employing their motorcycle helmets as weapons.
