A 22-year-old woman, Nur Syafiqa Abdullah, was charged on April 29 with four counts of acting as a secret society member in connection with TikTok videos in which she allegedly chanted gang slogans and made hand gestures to show her purported affiliation to a secret society, according to the Straits Times report.

The alleged offences took place on multiple occasions in 2023, with Nur reportedly chanting a gang slogan during a live streaming session in a Sengkang flat in May.

She is said to have committed a similar offence in the same flat the following month, as well as in East Court Park in mid-July, where she allegedly recorded a video of herself chanting a gang slogan and making hand gestures linked to secret society members.

Additionally, Nur is accused of committing a similar offence at Clarke Quay in late July, where she allegedly uploaded the video on her TikTok account.

“Members of the public are advised to steer clear of secret society activities and to report those engaging in such unlawful activities to the police immediately”, the police said according to the report.

Nur’s case has been adjourned to May 27, and if convicted, she could face up to three years in jail and a fine of up to $5,000 for each charge under the Societies Act.
