An accident in Tampines has claimed the life of a 64-year-old female cyclist after she was struck by a prime mover hauling a trailer on the morning of January 3.
The incident occurred around 9:30 AM at the junction of Tampines Avenue 2 and Tampines Street 11, prompting a swift response from the police and Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF).
Witnesses reported seeing multiple emergency vehicles at the scene as efforts were made to assist the cyclist, who was found unconscious. She was subsequently transported to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Police confirmed that a 44-year-old driver of the prime mover has been arrested on charges of “driving without reasonable consideration for other road users, causing death.”
When the reporter from Zaobao arrived at the scene, the crime scene had been cleared, and traffic in both directions was back to normal.
A witness named Ms. Liu, a 48-year-old planner residing in Block 107 across from the junction, reported that the police arrived shortly after the incident occurred. However, it wasn’t until around noon that another trailer came and unloaded the items from the trailer involved.
“The on-site investigation took quite a while, and it was nearly 1 or 2 in the afternoon by the time it concluded.”
Police investigations into the circumstances surrounding the accident are currently ongoing.
Family and friends of the victim gathered at the morgue on January 4 to pay their respects.
Among them was the victim’s daughter, who was visibly distraught over the loss.
