Music producer Ken Lim Chih Chiang, who rose to fame as a judge on “Singapore Idol,” has been charged with molestation, according to a report by CNA.
Lim, who runs Hype Records, a record label, concert promoter, and artist management agency, is accused of using criminal force to touch the breast of a 25-year-old woman in his office at Henderson Road on November 23, 2021.
Mr Navin Naidu his lawyer said that Lim maintains his innocence and “strenuously and unequivocally” denies the charge.
Lim has denied the charge and intends to plead not guilty.
Navin Naidu of Dentons Rodyk, has requested urgent trial dates to be fixed, stating that his client has been under investigation for over 15 months.
However, during the March 30 hearing, the Deputy Public Prosecutor, Chong Kee En, said that there were no special reasons for the case to be expedited. Lim’s pre-trial conference is scheduled for April 14, and he is currently out on bail of S$10,000.
In addition to the molestation charge, Lim has also applied for permission to leave Singapore to travel to Phuket from May 25 to June 3 for a work-related trip to settle property management matters on the island.
CNA reports that the prosecution did not object to his application, and the judge granted him permission to leave the country, subject to additional bail of S$10,000.
Lim will be required to provide a full itinerary for the trip, remain contactable, and surrender his passport upon his return.
Lim became a household name in Singapore as a judge on “Singapore Idol” in the 2000s and later appeared as a judge on “The Final 1” in 2013.
If found guilty of the molestation charge, he faces a jail term of up to two years, a fine, or both. It is worth noting that offenders above 50 are not caned in Singapore. The identity of the victim in the case is protected by a gag order.
Lim is said to have molested a 25-year-old woman by touching her breast via skin-to-skin contact, according to The Straits Times.
The molestation charge against Ken Lim Chih Chiang has shocked many in Singapore. The case will likely attract considerable public attention, given Lim’s status as a well-known music producer and television personality. While he has maintained his innocence, the courts will ultimately determine his guilt or innocence.
