A 31-year-old man named Mustaqim Rosli stood before the court on May 4th, accused of a grave offense: suffocating a three-month-old baby girl with a pillow in a flat situated in Bukit Batok, Singapore.

The alleged incident took place at a flat in Block 447A, Bukit Batok West Avenue 9 on December 3rd, 2022, at approximately 12:50 am. Mustaqim Rosli faces one charge of causing the death of a child below 14 years of age according to Channel News Asia.

The charge sheet claims that at around 12.50 am on December 3, 2022, the Singaporean put his hand on top of a pillow and placed it on top of the face of three-month-old Nur Misha Syaifa Mustaqim. An apartment in Block 447A, Bukit Batok West Avenue 9, is where the alleged crime took place.

The baby died from suffocation as a result of this. The charge sheet claims that Mustaqim was close with the infant and lived in the same home as her. How he was linked to her was not explicitly explained.

Court records indicate that the matter was originally scheduled to be tried in the High Court but has since been transferred to State Courts. Mustaqim is defended by attorneys from the Public Defender’s Office, a recently established, fully financed office that offers criminal defence to specific categories of accused people who cannot afford legal representation, according to CNA.

Mustaqim is expected to make his next court appearance in June, where the proceedings regarding the accusation against him will continue. If he is ultimately found guilty, he could face a maximum prison sentence of 20 years, as well as fines or caning, in accordance with the judgment of the court.
