A 34-year-old man, referred to in court documents as B1, was sentenced to 12 weeks in prison after pleading guilty to engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a minor.
The disturbing incident took place in August 2022 involving B1, his girlfriend, identified as B2, and her seven-year-old son.
According to Straits Times, court proceedings revealed that the couple, who have been in a relationship for ten years but are not married, were in a hotel room when they asked the young boy to film their sexual encounter on B1’s mobile phone.
The child, who reportedly did not participate in the act, complied with their request.
Compounding the situation, another video later surfaced that showed B2 topless in a restroom while B1 and the child were nearby. It was this footage that prompted a welfare officer from the National Anti-Violence and Sexual Harassment Helpline to alert authorities in January 2023 after a concerned citizen reported seeing child-related sexual content on social media.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Chan Yi Cheng described the actions of B1 and B2 as alarming, stating, “B1 and B2 decided to take a video of their sexual act,” and added that they had asked the child to record it.
As per the report, DPP Chan told the court – “On a Facebook page, (the member of the public) saw a video of a woman… half-naked in a… toilet (for the disabled).
“She believed a child was filming the video as the child could be heard asking the woman to pull down her pants.”
The couple later claimed they did not upload the video online despite it being discovered by B2 while browsing Facebook.
There has been some ambiguity regarding the relationship between B1 and the child, as per the report. While some court documents suggest that B1 is the boy’s father, others indicate that he is merely the mother’s boyfriend who treated the child as his own.
The child’s mother, age 33, has not been charged in connection with the incidents.
Court filings also revealed that while B1 and B2 met frequently—up to five times a week—they did not reside together. The case remains sensitive due to a gag order aimed at protecting the identity of the minor involved.
