A Singaporean man, Jason Gay Chin Foon, 44, was sentenced to four months and two weeks in jail on November 15 after pleading guilty to charges of harassment and making statements promoting disharmony between racial groups.

Gay was also found guilty of two unrelated charges: cheating by personation and theft.

According to the Straits Times report, the incidents leading to his conviction unfolded after an alcohol-fueled evening on August 11, during which Gay consumed six cans of beer, two bottles of soju, and four additional pints of beer. By the time he took a taxi to Little India, he was intoxicated and became embroiled in a dispute with the taxi driver and a group of bystanders over the fare.

Following this confrontation, Gay proceeded to a nearby pub at Sim Lim Square shopping mall, where he clashed with about 15 people. Eventually, he called the police around 2:30 AM, claiming he needed assistance. However, upon the arrival of the police, he began a live stream on TikTok, during which he made disparaging remarks about Little India, the report added.

It is unclear what specific words the Singaporean used during the live stream on TikTok that disparaged Little India.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Jotham Tay detailed that during the live stream, Gay uttered threats, including intentions to attack others with a Samurai sword, fetch a Glock 17 gun, and punch people with his “bare hand.”

DPP said : “The accused believed that these other subjects were behaving madly and wanted to fight with him, and he disengaged.”

He refused police directives to stop the live stream, which was deemed detrimental to their investigation, leading to his arrest.

In addition to the harassment and racial disharmony charges, Gay faced repercussions for an unrelated cheating incident. He unlawfully obtained his former employer’s debit card information to purchase a laptop and a mouse, totaling over $1,500. The deception occurred when Gay offered to help check on the business owner’s Central Provident Fund accounts, gaining the owner’s trust and subsequently making the fraudulent purchases.

The business owner reported the incident to the police upon discovering the unauthorized transactions, and Gay has yet to make restitution in this case. Furthermore, on December 31, 2021, Gay was charged with theft for stealing around $1,000 worth of items, including 35 metal pipes, from an engineering firm in Kaki Bukit Road 4, which had been left outside their premises.
