The Police have arrested two men aged 20 and 21, for their suspected involvement in a series of loanshark harassment cases along Hougang Ave 5 and Chai Chee Road l, where the doors of the residential units were set on fire, police said in a statement after old video was shared widely on social media recently.
According to press release by Police the incident happened On 20 September 2021. Video shows, The Man wearing black hoodie & A cap was seen writing on wall and after sometime another man in blue T shirt – cap sets door on fire and runs away from scene.
As soon as the video went viral Singapore Police issued a statement about the incident and said both of them were arrested on 24 September.

Police said “Through investigations and with the aid of images from CCTV and Police cameras, officers from the Criminal Investigation Department, Ang Mo Kio Police Division and Bedok Police Division established the identities of the two men and arrested them in the vicinity of Telok Blangah and Sembawang Way respectively, on 24 September 2021. During the operation, drug paraphernalia was also found and seized from both men”.
They have been charged in court on 25 September 2021 under the Moneylenders Act (Revised Edition 2010).
For first time offenders, the offence of loanshark harassment carries a fine of between $5,000 to $50,000, with a mandatory imprisonment term of up to five years, and up to six strokes of the cane.

Members of the public are advised to stay away from loansharks and not to work with or assist them in any way. The public can call the Police at ‘999’ or the X-Ah Long hotline at 1800-924-5664 if they suspect or know of anyone who could be involved in illegal loansharking activities.
