Two teenagers, aged 16 and 18, have been arrested for their suspected involvement in a car theft case.

The teens were arrested on July 10, the police said on July 11.

According to ST, the stolen car was left unlocked with the key inside while parked outside a car workshop in Hougang.

The incident was reported to the police by the car workshop owner on July 9 at around 11am. The owner discovered that a client’s car had been damaged and suspected that it had been driven before being parked back along the road.

Officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division were able to identify the two teenagers using images from closed-circuit television cameras and ground enquiries.

They were subsequently arrested on July 10. The police believe that the suspects may also be linked to other similar cases of motor vehicle theft from the same workshop.

The two teenagers are expected to appear in court on July 12 to face charges. If convicted, they could face a jail term of up to seven years and a fine.

The police have reminded the public to always secure their vehicles and avoid leaving keys inside unattended cars to prevent such incidents from happening.
