In a case of sexual exploitation, a 52-year-old man has been sentenced to eight years and three months in prison for engaging in sexual activities with a 12-year-old boy.
The man, whose identity has been withheld due to a gag order protecting the child’s privacy, pleaded guilty to one count of statutory rape.
According to Straits Times, the incident took place on March 7, 2023, when the young boy, unable to enter his home after school due to a lack of keys, sought refuge in the man’s home located in the same corridor.
Familiar with the boy’s family and having shared festive occasions together, the man allowed him in. In need of a restroom, he went to the offender’s apartment on the same corridor and knocked on the door.
While waiting for the boy’s father to return, the child made an unsettling request, asking if he could touch the man’s private parts and offering to perform a sexual act.
According to the report, “Around 5pm, the boy asked to touch the man’s private parts and offered to perform a sexual act on him”.
The pair proceeded with the inappropriate act, which continued until the boy’s brother arrived later that evening to take him home.
The disturbing nature of the incident came to light five months later when the child confided in a schoolmate, who informed a school counselor. The counselor subsequently alerted law enforcement, leading to the man’s arrest.
The DPPs stated that the offender was aware that the boy was roughly 12 years old at the time of the incident.
