A 37-year-old man was arrested by the police in Sengkang on Thursday afternoon after he was seen walking around with a knife in a disturbing incident that took place near a kindergarten.
The incident unfolded following a dispute at Block 445A Fernvale Road around 5 pm.
According to reports from Shin Min Daily News, the police received an alert about the dispute, which escalated to the point where the man was arrested for possession of an offensive weapon.
It was reported that the man had been engaged in a heated argument with his 36-year-old wife at their residence in the estate prior to his arrest.
Allegedly, following the dispute with his wife, the man proceeded downstairs, armed with a knife, and began walking in the vicinity of a kindergarten.
During the altercation, the man’s wife sustained minor injuries.
KNIFE RECOVERED
Police swiftly responded to the situation, with about six police vehicles and numerous officers converging on the scene. They successfully arrested the man and secured the weapon, believed to be the knife he had brandished, near the kindergarten.
At least one of the couple’s two children is believed to be attending the kindergarten, adding to the gravity of the situation. The man was escorted into a police vehicle at approximately 7:40 pm.
Mr. Zheng, a witness, informed reporters that he was taking a leisurely stroll downstairs when he witnessed the sudden arrival of multiple police vehicles. Shortly thereafter, officers entered the preschool premises.
Around 7 p.m. reporters noticed a middle-aged man seated on a bench downstairs, undergoing questioning by the police. He was surrounded by five officers, and at approximately 7:40 p.m., he was handcuffed and placed into a police vehicle.
Another officer was seen holding a knife, which, as it was later discovered, was found in the vicinity of the preschool, the report added.
Police investigations are ongoing.
