A student from Nanyang Junior College (NYJC) has been suspended and a police report lodged after an alleged case of sexual misconduct involving a girls’ toilet on campus.

The case came to light on April 17 after news platform Mothership reported that it had received a video showing two students confronting a male student. He was alleged to have attempted to film girls inside a toilet in the school.

The confrontation is believed to have taken place in a girls’ toilet within the campus. It is not known when the incident occurred.

According to reports, the video showed the male student coming out of a cubicle before being confronted by the two students. He was alleged to have been trying to film girls and, when caught, reportedly claimed that he had been “studying.”

In a statement, NYJC principal Pang Choon How confirmed that the school is aware of the incident and has made a police report.

“We take a serious view on sexual misconduct and have taken disciplinary actions against the student involved,” Mr Pang said. “The student has been suspended from school and will have his conduct grade adversely impacted.”

He added that the school counsellor has spoken to the student about his actions and that the student will be referred for further professional support.

“We are also working closely with his parents on this incident,” he said.

The school has also reached out to students following the incident and checked in with those who may have been affected.

“We take the well-being of our students seriously and have engaged students on the incident. We have also checked in with affected students on their well-being and will continue to look out for and offer support to students who may be affected by this incident.

“The school will continue to take necessary steps to maintain a safe and conducive learning environment for all students.”

Police confirmed on April 17 that a report has been filed and investigations are ongoing.
