Two officers from security firm Aetos are facing serious charges following an incident that took place at the Woodlands Checkpoint on September 28.
Muhammad Noorarman Shah Anwar, 23, allegedly pointed a loaded revolver at his colleague, Muhammad Amali Abdul Halim, also 23, during their duty shift. While court documents did not provide specific details regarding the motivation behind Noorarman’s actions, he has since been charged with endangering the safety of his colleague.
According to Straits Times, both men are also accused of unlawfully using a mobile phone to take a photograph within the secured area of the checkpoint, violating the Infrastructure Protection Act, which governs security in critical areas.
In response to inquiries from The Straits Times, an Aetos spokesperson confirmed that both officers’ employment had been terminated, citing a strict zero tolerance policy regarding breaches of protocols relating to firearms and controlled equipment.
The company stated that it is fully cooperating with ongoing investigations into the incident.
The legal proceedings for both men have been adjourned to October 15.
Under current laws, an individual convicted of endangering another person’s safety can face imprisonment for up to six months and/or fines reaching $2,500. Additionally, those found guilty of violating the Infrastructure Protection Act may be subject to imprisonment for up to two years and/or fines up to $20,000.
