Radio DJ Gunalan Morgan Charged with Multiple Sexual Offences

Gunalan Morgan, a 43-year-old radio DJ and producer-presenter at Mediacorp’s Tamil radio station Oli968, has been charged with several serious offences, including voyeurism and sexual communication with a minor.

The charges were filed at the State Courts on Friday ( March 21).

Morgan faces a total of seven charges, four of which pertain to sexual offences, according to Channel News Asia report.

A gag order has been issued to protect the identities of the three alleged victims and the locations where the incidents are said to have occurred.

According to court documents, Gunalan allegedly engaged in sexual communication with a minor under the age of 16 between August 25 and August 31, 2024.

Following a police report lodged against him, he is accused of deleting Instagram conversations with the victim on September 16, 2024, which constitutes a charge of obstructing the course of justice.

In addition to this, Morgan is charged with voyeurism for recording the private parts of two women without their consent.

The incidents reportedly took place on four separate occasions on August 28, 2023, where he allegedly used his mobile phone to record a woman’s genitals, breast, or underwear, as well as another incident on October 8, 2024, involving a different victim.

Mediacorp has stated that Gunalan was immediately suspended from his duties upon learning of his arrest, and a termination notice has been issued, the report added.

The company has refrained from further comments on the matter.

In court, Gunalan appeared unrepresented and did not enter a plea, expressing his intention to engage a lawyer. He is scheduled to return to court for a mention on April 21.

The potential consequences for the charges he faces are severe.

A conviction for sexual communication with a minor under 16 could result in a maximum of two years in prison, a fine, or both.

Those found guilty of obstructing justice could face up to seven years of imprisonment, a fine, or both. For voyeurism, penalties may include up to two years in jail, fines, or caning, among other combinations of punishment.
