The parents of a student from Bukit View Secondary School (BTVSS) have lodged a police report following an alleged bullying incident that was captured in a video circulating on social media.
The video, which garnered significant attention after it was shared on SgfollowsAll telegram, reportedly shows a student being kicked in the back by another, causing him to fall to the ground, while bystanders mock him.
The video was reshared on various social media platforms calling for action against the students involved.
According to CNA, the alleged bullying incident reportedly occurred at a HDB void deck, involving at least five students.
The police confirmed that a report was lodged and investigations are ongoing, reported ST.
Principal Jaswant Singh addressed the situation on Monday (Sep 16), confirming that BTVSS firmly opposes bullying and is treating the matter with utmost seriousness.
“The incident, which occurred outside of school premises in October 2023, was not reported to the school at the time,” Mr. Singh stated.
“However, following the circulation of the video, the school immediately checked on the well-being of the student, who did not report any injuries at that time.”
Singh added that the school would provide counseling to all students involved and would implement disciplinary measures where necessary, according to CNA.
In light of this incident, the Ministry of Education (MOE) reiterated its stance against bullying in schools.
In a response to a parliamentary question on anti-bullying policies, the MOE had said it takes a serious view on any form of bullying.
“All schools send a clear message to students that bullying is not acceptable and has no place in our schools,” it added.
“Schools monitor the school environment and discipline closely, and take educative, preventive and intervention measures to address bullying incidents.”
