A 14-year-old boy, Lu Xuanzheng, collapsed while participating in a 2.4 km run during a school fitness test and was rushed to the hospital. After three weeks of fighting for his life, he was confirmed brain-dead.

HEARBREAKING LOSS
Lu Xuan Zheng fell into a deep coma and remained unconscious for over three weeks. Despite the best efforts of doctors and support from his mother, Su Yan Fen, he was declared brain dead last Saturday (25 May).
Su Yan Fen, a 52-year-old accountant, was devastated by the news of her son’s condition.
Isaac’s father, Alun Loo, passed away from liver cancer in 2022.
She had never expected that a routine goodbye at the school gate would turn into a final farewell. The cause of Lu Xuan Zheng’s collapse was believed to be a sudden heart failure due to the intense physical activity, despite no prior history of heart problems, the report added.
The heartbreaking decision of whether to donate her son’s organs was then placed before Su Yan Fen. Despite her initial hesitation to put her son through the procedure, she later decided to honour his wish of helping others. Over 400 patients were on the waiting list for organ transplants, prompting Su Yan Fen to make the selfless decision.
On Sunday, doctors successfully completed the organ transplant surgeries which included Lu Xuan Zheng’s corneas, liver, kidneys, pancreas, and skin.
At least three people have been given a new lease on life thanks to his donation, according to the report.
Witnessing the emotional moment, Su Yan Fen’s friends and family gathered at the hospital to bid farewell to Lu Xuan Zheng. They described him as a helpful and lovable boy who had always wanted to contribute back to society.
Despite facing various challenges, Su Yan Fen, a Malaysian permanent resident, has found solace in the unwavering support of her loved ones during times of need.
The principal of Woodlands Secondary School, Tan Yan Pin, expressed their commitment to ensuring the safety of all students during physical activities. The school has conducted internal reviews and implemented measures to ensure compliance with safety protocols.
