Two teenage boys were caught smoking and vaping in a Sentosa cable car, leading to a report to the police by the Mount Faber Leisure Group (MFLG), which operates the Singapore Cable Car.
The incident was brought to the attention of the authorities by a concerned member of the public, who had seen a video of the incident posted on TikTok, according to Stomp.
The video, which was originally uploaded by a TikToker shu2899 on January 28. It shows three teenage boys riding a cable car on the Sentosa line to the Imbiah Lookout station, and then to the Merlion station.
One of the boys can be seen taking out an e-vaporiser from his cross-body bag and starting to vape about a minute into the video, while another boy lights up a cigarette.
Despite signs prohibiting smoking in cable car cabins, the two boys continued to smoke and vape throughout the ride.
As they approached Imbiah Lookout station, the TikToker can be heard telling the vaping boy to “keep, keep, keep!” as he takes one last puff of smoke before putting his e-vaporiser back into his bag.
According to Stomp report, an MFLG spokesman said that the incident had been reported to the police, and that the company takes a serious view of such behavior.
Smoking is strictly prohibited in cable car cabins, and signs to this effect are displayed at all cable car stations and cabins. Offenders can be held accountable to the authorities.
Although smoking is allowed under certain restrictions in Singapore, vaping is banned, with offenders facing a fine of up to $2,000. The minimum age for smoking in Singapore is 21 years old.
