Channel News Asia (CNA) has apologised for making an error while broadcasting a SEA Games medal tally table.
In a statement CNA said, “We made a mistake in our SEA Games medal tally table which aired on Asia First on CNA at around 7:50am this morning”.
This comes after a picture of mismatched national flags in a medal tally went viral on social media.
The names of the countries participating in the SEA Games and their respective national flags were mismatched. The error was on air for about 25 seconds.
This error was corrected for subsequent SEA Games updates during Asia First, which included an on-air apology.
CNA added “We deeply regret this happened. It falls short of the professional standards that we expect of ourselves and we extend a sincere apology to our viewers“.
We will strive to do better.
The SEA 2021 games taking place from 12-23 May 2022 in Hanoi, Vietnam.
The 31st edition of the Southeast Asian Games features 40 sports across 526 events and counts on the participation of 5,467 athletes from 11 different nations.
Originally scheduled to be held from 21 November to 2 December 2021, the 2021 Southeast Asian Games was postponed to 12 to 23 May 2022 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Southeast Asia is composed of eleven countries of impressive diversity in religion, culture and history: Brunei, Burma (Myanmar), Cambodia, Timor-Leste, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
