While going to his mother’s house he saw a 25 year-old woman walking along footpath near housing board block and followed her because she resembled his late wife and molested her.
According to Channel News Asia (CNA), Sim Kah Hwee was jailed for ten days on Thursday Nov (14) for one count of molestation.
What happened and Where :
On Oct 18, 2019 around 7pm Sim Kah Hwee had gone for drinks along with his office colleagues after work. The prosecutor said Sim had consumed “quite a lot of hard liquor” and took a ride home to the Tampines area at about 11pm”.
While going to his mother’s house he saw a 25 year-old woman walking along footpath and followed her because she resembled his late wife. Sim quickly entered the same lift as the victim and stood near the doors so that she would have to squeezed past him to get herself out of the lift.
When the lift reached the woman’s floor and she was about to walk out of the elevator, Sim grabbed her buttock. The victim turned around and scolded him, Sim pressed the lift buttons to escape from the scene.
The woman tried to grab him with her hands but Sim pushed her and ran out. Quickly he took the stairs and fled to his mother’s home, CNA reported.
The victim called the police and reported about Sim Kah Hwee, he was arrested within the hour in Tampines area. When he was tested, the test showed 45mg of ethanol per 100ml of blood.”
The victim felt disgusted when the accused touched her, but was not injured in any way,” said the prosecutor.
Affected By Wife’s Death :
Sim’s lawyer, S Balamurugan, said that the death of his wife had affected his client “greatly”. They had been married for five years and she bore him two children.
“Unfortunately, she gave no indication at all that she had suicidal tendencies”. Sim turned to alcohol as a coping mechanism for his grief. He felt suicidal but decided to live for his daughters, Yahoo News Reported.
When Sim saw the 25 year-old victim, he only wanted to have a look at her, the lawyer stressed.
“It is not a case where he would follow women who resemble his late wife because there was no such pattern, and this incident was the first time.” On hindsight, Sim should have sought professional help, he added. “However, he has since got a grip of himself and has quit drinking alcohol. He is a widower, who has promised to care for his young daughters.”
